=== Bio-inspired joint actuation and control ===

* Duration: 4 months

* Carlo Menon

====Stage topic Description====

Studies performed in cooperation with the Advanced Concepts Team led to the design of a new Bio-inspired Actuated Joint (BAJ). The interesting potential of such a system asks for further investigation and validation of the idea via computing simulation of the joint. The candidate will explore the capabilities of the BAJ and will design a computing code capable to show the static and dynamic performance of the joint.  He will also be involved in the characterization and measurements of a prototype in order to assess its performance and estimate the margins of improvement.

====Candidate’s tasks====

*Perform the identification of the BAJ

*Design a simple controller to command the BAJ

*Write the code  of the controller that should be implemented in the electronic hardware of the joint.

*Perform experiments and measurements of the BAJ.

*Investigate smart controller typologies in order to maximize the dynamic performance of the system.

====Candidate’s profile====

*Control engineer, computer scientist, electronic engineer or similar

====Candidate’s qualifications====

*Capable to program in Matlab (knowledge of xPC toolbox is an asset but not a requirement)

*Experience in c++ coding

*Experience in control design and its implementation in automatic systems is an asset

Group Project: Saturn Rings Hopper

Saturn
The mystery surrounding Saturn's rings has fascinated humankind (and cats!!) since ancient times. Since the first observations made by Galileo in 1610, science has been trying to formulate theories and answer even more the fundamental questions: How did the rings form? Why are they there? What are they made of? What is their structure? How do they behave? How stable is the system? Qui prodest?

ACT Workshop Preparation

This page will prepare the ACT workshop in September. Are we as ACT doing the right things? and are we doing the right things right? What new areas should we get involved in? which one should we drop? How should we adapt our organisational setup - what is working and what needs changes and improvement? Any radically new ideas?
